The Electrochemical study based on cyclic voltammetry to determine the molecular weight of polymer has been reported in this presentation. Polymer was synthesized by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization, and the molecular weight of polymer is measured by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). As a result of polymerization, the molecular weight and the viscosity of solution are increased. According to the Stokes-Einstein equation, the steady-state current is decreased by the diffusion disturbance of the redox species on the electrode surface. With drawing the calibration curve of polymer molecular weight and steady-state current, we can decide the degree of polymerization easily. The proposed electrochemical method requires a very small amount of sample and short measurement time, which enables the fabrication of a small portable device, making our method more practical.
