Homochirality at multiple length scales in nature is tenably considered as a result of transfer and amplification of chiral information from molecular level to mesoscopic and macroscopic levels. In these processes, supramolecular chirality can be generally obtained by the chiral amplification during self-assembly according to the molecular chirality. On the other hand, external stimuli such as circularly polarized light (CPL) have been also known to create supramolecular chirality. Here we address the influence of the internal and external stimuli in the development of supramolecular chirality. By taking light-induced self-assembly of triphenylamine derivatives containing a point chirality in their side chains as a model system, we will explore how they contribute to the emergence of supramolecular helicity and amplification in a quantitative manner.
