In this research, Basic catalyst such as Cs-X Zeolite is effective for side-chain alkylation of toluene with methanol. Zeolites are primarily adopted as support substances for basic metals because of their potent nature, high thermal stability, and uniform pore structure. In an effort to enhance the yields of side-chain alkylated products, CO2 was introduced during the toluene side-chain alkylation with methanol at 425°C over Cs loaded faujasite catalyst. Interestingly, the CO2 promoted in removing the formed hydrogen by reverse water-gas shift reaction and enhanced the product yield. Mesoporosity was also transported to the zeolite X to increase the activity and product selectivity. Moreover, utilization of CO2 assisted to obtain higher yields of side-chain alkylation products along with styrene/ethyl benzene and α-methyl styrene/iso-propyl benzene.
