We report unique Re1-xMoxSe2 ternary composition nanosheets that synthesized using a hydrothermal reaction. The doping of Mo at x = 0.1 produced the most metallic phase that show the best electrocatalytic performance toward the HER with a current of 10 mA cm-2 at overpotential of 0.079 V (vs. RHE) and a Tafel slope of 42 mV dec-1. Based on the first-principles calculations, we predicted the more metallic phase of Re0.9Mo0.1Se2 than ReSe2 to support the experiments. Calculation of Gibbs free energy along the reaction path indicates that the basal Se in Mo-Se bonding of Re0.9Mo0.1Se2 becomes the most active sites for the HER.
