Proton transport based on acid-base chemistry is a fundamental and critical phenomenon in the biological system and electrochemical devices. In particular, the understanding of proton diffusion in conducting media is important and aids to design an efficient proton conductor. The solid-state electrolytes have received great attention due to their application in a fuel cell. Recently, the porous crystalline metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are emerging as a new class of solid electrolyte because of the designability and versatile sorptivity. The majority of conducting media in MOFs is H2O, where proton diffusion mechanisms are well established by numerous experimental and theoretical studies. Herein we demonstrate superprotonic conductivity in H2O and NH3 media confined in MOFs. In this study, we observed the unique molecular behavior of the confined conducting media in the pore of MOF. The structural analysis and solid-state 2 H-NMR proved the role of each conducting medium species in the cooperative proton jump-diffusion mechanism.
