Tin oxide have been suggested as possible anode materials, to replace the presently used carbonaceous materials, as they have larger reversible capacities. The alloying of Li directly into bulk tin particle causes a large volume expansion, producing cracking of the electrode, and rapid loss of capacity, and so its not of use in a practical battery. In order to overcome this fault, SnO2-Ni composite electrode is prepared by mixing of tin oxide and nickel that was high lithium storage capacity and excellent stability respectively. Addition of nickel is expected to increase the cycleability, because nickel particles prevent aggregation of tin particles. The electrochemical performance of the SnO2-Ni composite electrode is studied by using chronopotentiometry (CP), a.c. impedance, energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
