High quality polycrystalline CuInSe2 (CIS) samples were prepared by a solvothermal process of toluene system using selected alkyl amines as additives. Toluene was used as a primary solvent, and alkyl amines were added as catalysts, e.g. diethylamine, ethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine, triethylenetetramine and hexamethylenetetramine. The optimal experimental parameters to synthesize CIS in solvothermal method were also investigated including alkyl amine amounts, temperature and reaction times. Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) data of the products support the successful syntheses of single phase CIS optimized to use minimum quantity of alkyl amines. The crystal structure, particle morphology, chemical composition, and band gap of the prepared samples were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), ICP-AES and UV/vis spectroscopy.
