Biodegradable polymers are of current interest both for environmental reasons and various applications. Most of the biodegradable polymers are based on ester bonding and synthesized by fermentation or chemical polymerization. The Purposes of this work were the production of biodegradable poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) microcapsules and the analysis of forms and features for the manufacturing conditions which could be observed in prospective drug delivery systems. The effects of different stirring rates and emulsifier concentrations on the diameters and forms of the microcapsules were observed using an image analyzer and a scanning electron microscopy. Also, the drug release behaviors on the microcapsules were controlled by adding the additives such as natural and synthetic. From the experimental results, the microcapsules prepared by PCL exhibited slow release within 10% for 14 days, but those prepared by a variety of additives exhibited the controlled drug release patterns with a dependence on the additive contents.
