Synthesis of Blue-Emitting Silylene-Spaced Dithienosilole-Derivatives and their Application to OLED

Hydrosilation reactions of 2,6-bis(dimethylsilyl)-4,4-diphenyldithienosilole (2) with various terminal alkynes in the presence of Pt(0) catalyst. Their UV-vis absorption and emission bands in THF solution appear around 357 and 426-8nm which was red-shifted about 3 nm as compared with the compound 2 in the blue region. It was examined a little σ-π conjugation between an dimethylsilanylene unit and π-conjugated system(dithienosilole unit). Also, optical band gap energy of adducts caculated from absorption edge appear in the same region. This phenomenon was explained interruption of π-conjugation by the silylene moiety(dimethylsilyl group) simply serve as insulating spacer. One of the present hydrosilated-adducts was found to be OLED having the following structure: ITO/TPD/compound 3/Alq3/Al:Li. Among the devices, blue light-emitting device exhibits the EL performance.
