Conducting polymer have been widely studied over the past three decades to use as the electrode of power source devices. The use of conducting polymers as electrode in battery and supercapacitor relies on their electrochemical doping/undoping processes. We use dimethyl sulfate (DMS) as a promising substrate for nucleophile doping to prepare PAn-DMS powder sample using emeraldine base, which is characterized by the solvation, chemical identification, morphology, thermal and crystalline properties, and finally the temperature dependence of conductivity. In addition, we prepare the PAn-DMS electrodes in lump- and sheet-types by using dry and wet processings, respectively, and then fabricate lithium secondary battery and redox supercapacitor, which are adopting the PAn-DMS electrodes. The electrochemical performances of the battery and capacitor are measured by using cyclic voltammetry, complex a.c. impedance spectroscopy and charge/discharge cycler. In addition, the electrochemical properties of polythiophene and polyehthyleneoxythiophene are studied.
