We have been carried out the study of the photodissociation dynamics of thiophenol (C6H5SH) by using the velocity map ion imaging technique. At an excitation of 243 nm, the D atom abstraction initailly takes place on nσ* state, which has the repulsive character with respect to the S-D fission coordinate. The S-D torsion mediated vibronic coupling induce the bifurcation of dissociation pathway to two channels correlating to the ground and first excited state of nascent phenylthiyl radical (C6H5S•). These symmetry allowed crossing of two S-D dissociation pathways give rise to two perpendicularly aligned orbital concentrated on the sulfur with respect to molecular plane, which is named as the intramolecular orbital alignment. Also, vibrational adiabaticity can be directly observed. As the excitation energy is changed from 266 to 224 nm, the dissociation at 224 nm S-D dissociation might occur exclusively on the upper nσ* state, while the indirect dissociation via the coupling from the bound ππ* may be the main mechanism of the dissociation at 266 nm.
