Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has received increasing attention as a new modality for selective treatment of solid tumors. For synthesizing various amphiphilic porphyrins, among various solubilizing substituents, sugars have attracted most attention. Galactose and lactose conjugated chlorins derived that pyropheophorbide-a- D-(+)-galactose and pyropheophorbide-a -D-(+)-lactose were synthesised for development of a new class of specific photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy (PDT). The structures of new compounds were characterized by UV and 1HNMR spectra.
