A wood containing paper mill was experiencing problems with felt filling and machine runnability due to high levels of pitch in the GWP and TMP furnishes. The obvious costs resulting from pitch deposits in a machine system include lost or downgradeed production resulting from specks, spots, and holes in the sheet, reduced wire and felt life, and downtime due to clothing change and clean-up of the machine, The mill was feedimng MVP, alum and sodium aluminate to GWP furnush line. Thus various polymeric coagulant as the pitch control agent are applied to peroxide bleaching systems of GWP line to replace MVP and reduce alum. The extent of the contribution to pitch control is related to the chemical proprerties of the polymeric coagulants. To evaluate the degree to replace the mvp and reduce alum, brightness(% ISO), color value of L, a and b of paper, and photomicrograph analysis of filtrate are discussed.
