In this talk, we will present the synthetic routes for photonic crystals with regular shapes in confined geometry. We employ a novel strategy for fabricating 3D nanophotonic structures; namely, self-organization of photo-responsive complex colloids inside of microfluidic devices. The efficiency of building 3D photonic structures significantly improves when photonic crystals are made by self-assembly in confined geometries of microfluidic channels with preferable crystal orientation and lower defect density. We have pursued in-depth exploitation of physical, chemical, biological, and electromagnetic functionalities as well as structural diversity, leaving an absolute advantage to establish optofluidic platform technology that overcomes existing microelectronic device technology. The present research allows unprecedented flexibility in fabricating and operating optofluidic devices.
