The purpose of this study is to development of aqueous lubricant which has a sustained release characteristic of biocide. Aqueous metal working fluids (MWFs) are widely used as coolants and lubricants. Poly ethylene glycols (PEGs) are used in aqueous lubricants because of the water soluble and the lubricant property. Poly(oxyethylene)-dicarboxylic acids (POE-DA) was synthesized by oxidation of PEG using Jone’s reagent (CrO3 and H2SO4) as the oxidizing agent. Polyethylene glycol coupled with biocide (PEG-biocide) was synthesized from poly(oxyethylene)-dicarboxylic acids, biocide(o-phenylphenol). The synthesized PEG-biocide was identified by H1-NMR spectra. PEG-biocide was determined that sustained release of biocide, and the release induces antimicrobial effect.
