Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) can be considered as an ideal template for the formation of one-dimensional nanoparticle assemblies. CNTs/nanoparticles hybrid materials, in which nanoparticles are attached to CNTs surfaces, exhibit excellent catalytic activity and enhanced electrical conductivity. In the present study, we have synthesized CNTs decorated gold nanoparticles composites using an one step microwave irradiation method. CNTs were intially functionalized using 4-aminothiophenol (4ATP). Au nanoparticles are anchored into CNTs by applying microwave radiation on a solution containing dispersed 4ATP functionalized CNTs and gold ions. Conditions are optimized for uniform dispersion of gold nanoparticles in CNT matrix. The resulting CNTs/Au nanocomposites were characterized by means of TEM, UV-Vis spectroscopy and XRD.
