Ordered mesoporous materials possess a large BET surface area, controllable and narrowly distributed pore sizes, and an ordered pore arrangement. These materials are known to be promising candidates for the use as catalyst supports. Ionic liquid are known as a green solvents for numerous catalytic reactions. The heterogenation of ionic liquids on solid mesoporous supports is highly desirable because, the problems encountered in the homogeneous catalysis such as handling, separation, waste-disposal etc. can be prevented and at the same time, diffusion limitations can be alleviated by choosing an appropriate mesoporous support. The concept of supported ionic liquid catalysis on mesoporous silica via direct synthesis has been explored and demonstrated that these catalysts were hydroformylation reactions and solid catalysts performed well for the Friedel–Crafts akylation reactions
