Polynuclear aromaric hydrocarbons(PAHs) is a group of organic contaminants with multi-aromatic rings. Some of PAHs are not only Highly ether toxic, harmful and carcinogen, but also they are very stable in nature. Permeable reactive barriers(PRBs), which employed Zero-valenet metals(ZVMs) as reactive material, were used to treat halogenated organic compounds in contaminated soil and ground water. ZVMs were used on reduction of PAHs, but their reactivity were not enough to reduce PAHs. In generally, aromatic hydrocarbons are known to be more toxic than corresponding cyclo-aliphatics of similar strucures. In this study, palladium coated iron was employed in lab-scale batch test for reduction of PAHs with Pd/H2. Pd/H2 reduced the PAHs and the by-products were analyzed with GC-MS analysis.
