We have synthesized SnO2 electrodes of with nano-cluster structure by a simple blending process for DSSCs. Three factors were used to control the size of nano-cluster tin oxide, The size of ZnO nanoparticles, SnO2 content and additional organic materials. The morphology of SnO2 nano-cluster was analyzed and characterized by SEM and XRD. The pure SnO2 nano-cluster electrode was obtained by immersing ZnO-SnO2 blended electrodes in acetic acid, which bleached ZnO, leaving pure SnO2 nano-cluster electrode as confirmed by EDX. By introducing nano-clusterd structure into electrode, the solar energy conversion efficiency of SnO2 electrode was remarkably increased compare to simple nanoparticulate SnO2 electrode by more than 25%. This improved efficiency is attributed to the increased porosity, which can help the penetration of electrolyte and also decreased interfacial resistance by the relaxation of complex channel of compact SnO2 electrode. Analysis of amount of adsorbed dye molecule by UV-absorption, IPCE and the impedance spectroscopy supports such consideration.
