We synthesized two series of novel TTF derivatives having asymmetric and symmetric core structure and long alkyl peripheral chains. For two of asymmetric TTF compounds and all of symmetric TTF compounds highly ordered columnar liquid crystalline phases were observed. One of asymmetric TTF derivatives shows the first TTF-based room temperature columnar liquid crystalline phase with a temperature window between 9 and 96 °C. For symmetric TTF compounds, spontaneous formation of large liquid crystalline domain with size up to mm scale was observed on the bare glass plate only by a thermal treatment. Cyclic voltammograms (CV) were measured to reveal asymmetric series undergoes two reversible single-electron oxidation peaks at 1.06 and 1.37 V. For the symmetric series, they show two irreversible single-electron oxidation peaks at 1.20 and 1.49 V.
