Hydrogel has been a promising delivery vehicle for the hydrophilic drugs such as therapeutic proteins or peptides. In this study, nano-sized polyacrylamide hydrogel (nanogel) was prepared by the method of inverse-miniemulsion polymerization and its physicochemical properties were investigated. The mean size of nanogel encapsulating lysozyme as a model protein drug was about 100nm, when the size distribution of nanogel was examined by particle size analyzer. From the activity assay of lysozyme, it was shown that lysozyme in nanogel had its activity more than 90% after the process for the preparation of nanogel. Moreover, sustained release profile of lysozyme from nanogel could be obtained and the release rate could be controlled by changing the condition of polymerization.
