Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is promising cancer treatment that combines the effects of visible light irradiation with subsequent biochemical events that are arise from the presence of a photosensitizing drug possessing no dark toxicity to cause destruction of selected cells. It requires the availability of photosensitizers which have a high efficiency and selectivity for the destruction of tumor cells. Therefore, we have synthesized new imidazolyl-chlorin derivatives and evaluated them as a sensitizer for photodynamic therapy. Their photostability and photodynamic activity against cancer cells were investigated.
