Recently, significant interest has been directed toward the design of nanocrystals (NCs) and carbon nanotube (CNT) hybrid nanostructures, in order to extend their range of applications to various energy conversion devices. In particular, water soluble semiconductor NC and CNT hybrid nanostructures allow for the highly efficient electron-hole generation via the interaction between the NCs and CNTs. They were used as amperometric biosensors that respond more sensitively than those using the NCs (or CNTs) alone. In this study, we synthesized high-quality water-soluble Cu2S, CdS, CdSe, and ZnS NCs, using solvothermal method. In-situ synthesis of NCs on carbon nanotubes has been also performed to produce the NCs-CNT hybrid nanostructures. All of the CNTs are decorated homogeneously with the NCs (avg size = 6 nm).
