Several TiO2 nanostructures in the form of mesoporous films and hollow microspheres were synthesized, and applied as electrode material of dye-sensitized solar cell. First, long-range ordered mesoporous TiO2 films were prepared by using triblock copolymer-templated sol-gel method. The DSSC fabricated from these mesoporous films showed 1.7 times of photovoltaic current (Jsc) than those from the nanocrystalline films in the same thickness. The mesoporous TiO2 film was also utilized as an interfacial layer between the FTO and the main TiO2 layer. It was found that the introduction of mesoporous TiO2 films improved the photovoltaic conversion efficiency by 20~30 %. Third, the hollow TiO2 microspheres with size of 1.5–4 micron were synthesized by the solvothermal reaction of titanium isopropoxide in basic condition, and they were applied as the scattering layer of DSSC.
