We report here on the recent progress in dye-sensitized solar cell at KIST. DSSC is composed of a dye-adsorbed nanocrystalline TiO2 film, redox electrolyte and metallic film. There are several factors affecting photovoltaic performances. From the studies of nano oxides, structural design with light confinement and new materials with bi-functionality were found to improve photocurrent density. Loss of electrons was protected by Interfacial nano-engineering techniques, which improved photocurrent density and open-circuit voltage. We have also studied effects of transparent conductive materials and dye molecules on photovoltaic performances of dye-sensitized solar cells. As a result, the efficiency of more than 11% has been achieved under AM 1.5G one sun light intensity.
