Preparation and Characterization of Blue Emitting CaMgSi2O6:Eu2+ Thin-film Phosphors by Sol-gel Method

This study investigates blue emitting Eu2+ doped CaMgSi2O6 thin-film phosphors. These phosphors were prepared by a Pechini-type sol-gel method. Calcium nitrate, magnesium nitrate, europium nitrate, TEOS and citric acid were utilized as precursors for the sol-gel reaction in these experiments. The precursors were dissolved in 2-methoxyethanol and water solution, which produced a homogeneous transparent solution. For each coating layer, a few drops of semi-gel solution were dropped onto a 2x2cm2 square sapphire substrate and this was spun at 3000rpm for 100 seconds. For each coating process, the substrate was dried in air at 120℃ and was then baked at 550℃. To fabricate the CaMgSi2O6:Eu2+ thin-film phosphors, the entire process was repeated 10 times. Finally, the CaMgSi2O6:Eu2+ thin-film coated substrates were sintered at different temperatures in a range of 900 and 1150℃ for 2 hours in a 5%H2+95%N2reduction atmosphere. They were characterized by means of Photoluminescence (PL), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Atomic force microscopy (AFM).
