Highly Soluble Ir(III) Complexes for Electrophosphorescence

Cyclometallated Ir(lll) complexes show high phosphorescent efficiencies and became one of the most promising classes of phosphorescent dyes used in organic light emitting diodes because they exhibited high phosphorescent efficiencies. The known Ir(lll) complexes in general are excellent candidates for highly efficient electroluminescent devices; however, it is very difficult to process them into a homogenous solution. Although a number of studies on electrophosphorescent polymer light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) in the green spectral region have been reported, the Ir(lll) complex used in this study exhibits an inherent poor solubility in organic solvent and poor miscibility in a polymer host. These demerits result in phase separation and poor EL device performance after long-term operation. In this works, the very simple synthesis, and photophysical, and EL properties of the new tris-cyclometallated homoleptic Ir(lll) complex coordinated by 9-(6-phenyl-pryidin-3-ylmethyl)-9H-cabazole will be demonstrated.
