The purified natural DNA extracted from salmon sperm can be dissolved only in water, which not soluble in any of the organic solvent; therefore, thin film processing has some disadvantages for its electronic and optoelectronic application because of high content of water. We modified the structure of natural DNA and change its solubility by post-functionalization. The preparation of organic soluble DNA was carried out by precipitating the purified DNA in water with a functionalized cationic surfactant such as alkyltrimethyl ammonium bromide and other functional ammonium bromide. The resulting functionalized DNA complexes show good solubility in organic solvents and allow us to fabricate thin films for studying their photophysical properties in a solid state. The physical and photophysical properties of functionalized DNA complexes were well characterized after imposing the functional group to DNA structure.
