Complexes of monosubstituted aromatic ring derivatives of N, N’-bibenzyl-(R,R)-1,2-diaminocyclohexane with Cu(II) used as asymmetric catalysts seem to be effectively enantioselective to asymmetric nitroaldol reaction of benzaldehyde. Herein, we synthesized the complexes of Cu(II) with o- or p- methoxy derivatives of N, N’-bibenzyl-(R,R)-1,2-diaminocyclohexane. The X-ray crystallography of N, N’-bis( p-methoxybenzyl-(R,R)-1,2-diaminocyclohexane with Cu(II) was studied. X-ray structure data shows that geometry around the central Cu metal is distorted square planar. The coordination of the metal to the chiral amine ligand leads to a 5-membered heterocyclic ring that blocks nitrogens in (S, S)-configuration. Asymmetric nitroaldol reaction between benzaldehyde and nitromethane in the presence of diisopropylethylamine and the chiral complexes as enantioselective catalysts was examined.
