Abstract |
Unnatural carotenoids containing various Phenyl substituents exhibit an advantage in terms of stability and electronic characteristics, compared with the natural carotenoids. Chain extension of triene-dialdehyde unit using Julia-Kocienski olefination efficiently provided an extended dialdehyde unit. The Julia-Kocienski olefination of the Phenyl-substituted-C5 -BT(benzothiazole)-sulfone with C10 2,7-diphenyl-2,4,6-octatrienedial efficiently produced tetra-Phenyl-substitued-dial. Carotenoid molecular wires can be assembled by the Wittig reaction between tetra-Phenyl-substituted-dial with 4-thiomethylbenzyl phosphonium bromide. |
