Abstract Living creatures have developed diverse bioactive materials with unique structures to survive and adapt to changing environments. Nature in its wonders presents the most intricate and delicate protein structures including cage-like architecture. Perfect and complex symmetry is ubiquitous in protein nanocages and can be engineered for nanomedicines. With respect to the properties of nanocages, I could expect that they may show different biological effects and/or targeting specificity, which can meet the needs of precision medicine as the next generation of DDS and nanomedicine. Particularly, protein nanocages could be developed for the cancer immunotherapeutics.
