Subject Photophysical and Structural Propreties of Copper Iodide Polymorphic Complexes

Abstract Two copper iodide complexes [Cu4I4L4](1) and [Cu4I4L4](2) of benzyl(methyl)sulfane(L) have been successfully synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Complexes 1 and 2 were crystallized in the space group orthorhombic P212121 and tetragonal I-4, respectively. Complexes 1 and 2 show a discrete complex based on cubane Cu4I4 units. Complexes 1 and 2 are polymorphic complexes. They have different structures with the same formula. Complexes 1 and 2 have different packing structure and intermolecular interactions. Luminescence spectra of the complexes 1 and 2 exhibit emission peaks at 530 nm and 546 nm at room temperature, respectively.
