Abstract |
Hydrogen energy is an ideal, clean and efficient secondary energy resource. Noble metals such as platinum and palladium are well-known for their superior electrocatalytic property in the hydrogen evolution reation (HER) in an acidic medium and commonly used as electrocatalysts in the applications. However, large-scale application of them is limited due to their high prices and global low availabilities. Therefore, extensive research efforts have been devoted to the development of non-platinum electrocatalysts for HER.
Here, we show the synthesis of S-MoC nanocrystals and their excellent electrocatalytic activity. We achieved this by a pulsed laser induced liquid–solid interfacial reaction. S-MoC nanocrystals exhibit excellent HER activity, which demonstrates the best integrated electrocatalytic performance. Finally, This study successfully demonstrates that introducing strain to S-MoC is feasible by wavelength tuning of Nd:YAG pulse laser. Introducing vacancies and strain may open up a potential pathway for designing more efficient Mo-based catalyst for HER.
