Abstract Lysosome is membrane-bound organelle containing hydrolases that degrade endocytosed macromolecules to obtain the energy or dispose the waste. For optimum enzyme activity, the lysosomal pH is maintained at 4.5-6.0 in the normal cells. In the cancer cells, however, the pH is decreased to 3.8-4.7. To understand the effects of lysosomal pH on physiology, there are a few reports on two-photon (TP) probes that can determine the lysosomal pH in a live tissue. However, there is no report on the TP probe that can detect colon cancer in a human tissue. Herein we report that BH3 can effectively detect cancer cells in a human colon tissue.
