Abstract Thermoelectric technology directly converts waste heat into electricity and is considered a promising means of sustainable energy generation. Nanostructuring can effectively scatter heat-carrying phonons to give the significantly reduced lattice thermal conductivity and consequently the enhanced thermoelectric figure of merit (ZT). In this talk, we will discuss about atomic resolution crystal structure of nanostructures embedded in bulk compounds employing aberration-corrected scanning transmission microscopy (Cs-corrected STEM) combined with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and electron energy loss spectroscopy because such nanostructures cannot be analyzed by conventional X-ray diffraction techniques, Afterwards, we will discuss how the nanostructures affect thermoelectric properties of bulk materials.
