Abstract Conducting polymers (CPs) have been good candidate for various applications such as energy harvesting, optical imaging, and sensing devices, due to their controllable optoelectronic properties and simple processability. In particular, thin films of CPs have been shown interesting thermoelectric conversion and photothermal heat generation. The highly conductive thiophene-based π-conjugated polymers were explored to demonstrate as an photothermal materials in near-IR (NIR) range, which were used for harvesting of solar energy, harvesting of live cell sheets, and ablation of cancer cells. Due to the high photothermal effect, photo thermoelectric energy was harvested from the thin films of CPs upon exposure to NIR. The effect of polymer structure and ordering on the NIR photothermoeelctric conversion will be discussed.
