Abstract |
Recently the demand for a safer alternative to bisphenol A (BPA, 4,4'-(propane-2,2-diyl)diphenol)-based developer materials for thermal (printing) papers has grown considerably because of the many potential health effects of exposure to BPA. In this study, in order to replace a problematic BPA developer for thermal papers, phenolic polymers were synthesized and their chemical structures were characterized by 1H-NMR, FT-IR and GPC measurements. The thermal properties and color-forming reaction properties of these polymers were investigated in detail. In addition, the developing capabilities of the thermal papers using these phenolic polymers as developers were assessed and compared to those of BPA thermal papers. |
