Subject Synthesis and characterization of Li3V2(BO3)3 cathode material prepared by a citric acid based sol-gel route

Abstract

A new cathode material, Li3V2(BO3)3, has been calcined by citric acid based sol-gel route at various temperatures ranging from 400℃ to 600℃ and characterized for optimization of calcination temperature. The Li3V2(BO3)3 as cathode material for LIBs was investigated on electrochemical performances. Citric acid acts not only as a chelating agent but also as a carbon source, which enhance the conductivity of the composite material and hinder the growth of Li3V2(BO3)3 particles during preparation. The structure and morphology of Li3V2(BO3)3 were characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Galvano-static charge/discharge and cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements were used to study its electrochemical behaviors which indicate the reversibility of the lithium extraction/insertion processes. The sample synthesized at 450℃ exhibits the highest capacity of 198 mAh g-1 at 0.05C and excellent cycle ability.
