The furo[3,2-a]carbazole core structure is found in many bioactive natural products and pharmaceuticals. Recently, we developed a one-pot synthetic method for carbazoles that featured cascade carbon-carbon/carbon-nitrogen bondformations via Suzuki cross-coupling and Cadogan cyclization. Herein, a short and efficient total syntheses of naturally occurring furo[3,2-a]carbazole alkaloids are described (Figure 1).
