Abstract Recent studies have shown that carbon nanotube (CNT) sponge has porous, uniform, soft, flexible and freestanding structure. we synthesized CNT sponge using a liquid-injection chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. The large surface area and porous properties of super hydrophobic CNT allows easy and many adsorption of gaseous hydrophobic compounds. Instantaneous desorption is accomplished by applying DC voltage to the CNT sponge. By using the absorption and desorption properties of such CNT sponge, it can be used as an eco-friendly material to replace the currently used oil adsorbent, a filter of an air purifier, and a concentration device of an analytical instruments.
