Abstract |
Recently, bismuth based halide compounds have come into the spotlight as potential materials for perovskite solar cell. For this reason, these compounds have been heavily studied in solid state. However, there are relatively few examples of their photo-induced chemical dynamics in solution.
Here, we present light driven structural dynamics of bismuth triiodide complex (BiI3) by using time-resolved X-ray solution scattering and quantum chemical calculations. Briefly, upon 400 nm excitation, BiI3 undergoes LMCT transition and within our time resolution (~100 ps) it transforms into iso-BiI2-I rather than planar trigonal (D3h) structure. The presence of this specific intermediate structure is further supported by quantum chemical calculations. |
