Abstract |
We newly synthesized a fullerene nanosurfactant (FCBN) for the vertical alignment of liquid crystals. From microscopic observations, it was realized that the vertical alignment of the host LC molecules was automatically induced by doping a small amount of FCBN into the host LC. Because of self-assembly and phase separation, the vertical alignment of liquid crystals was induced. Electro-optical switching behavior and surface anchoring energy were further investigated by using the FCBN doped LC cell.
