Abstract |
High-valent metal–oxygen species are implicated as reactive intermediates in the catalytic oxidation reaction. For example, cobalt(IV)-oxo (CoIV-O) species have been proposed as key intermediates in various cobalt-mediated oxidation reactions. In general, metal−oxo complexes are synthesized by using artificial oxidants, such as iodosylbenzene (PhIO), and the synthesis of Co-oxo complex using PhIO was previously reported. However, cobalt-iodosylbenzene adduct, which can be considered as a precursor of cobalt-oxo complex, has not been trapped. Herein we report the synthesis and characterization of [(N3O2)CoIII(OIPh)]+ (1) by reacting [CoII(N3O2)(H2O)](ClO4)2 with iodosylbenzene. 1 was further protonated upon addition of equimolar of perchloric acid. The reactivities of 1 and 2 were examined in oxygen atom transfer (OAT) and electron-transfer(ET) reactions. |
