Abstract |
A series of 1,2-bis[N-(N-alkylpyrrolidinium)]alkane salts have been synthesized as new organic ionic plastic crystals (OIPCs). Bis-ethyl(propyl, butyl, hexyl)pyrrolidinium Br(hexafluorophosphate, bis(trifluoromethylsulfone)imide salt shows multiple solid-solid phase transitions. However, its I- salts do not have any transition. Thermal stabilities of the salts were investigated by thermal gravimetric analysis; halide salts are less stable than PF6 or Tf2N salts. 1,2-bis[N-(N-butylpyrrolidinium)]ethane PF6- show a relatively small entropy of fusion, ΔSf = 26 J mol-1 K-1, which is a close value of Timmermans’ definition of plastic crystals (ΔSf = 20 J mol-1 K-1). |
