Abstract |
The metal salts of various organic acids were prepared and their morphologies were examined under the scanning electron microscope. It was observed that the metalated organic acids (decanoic, stearic and 12-hydroxystearic) have more branched thread-like clusters than the organic acids themselves. Of all the metal salts of various organic acids prepared, the lithium 12-hydroxystearate (Li-HSA) proves to be the most similar in morphology to the reticular structure that is known to be suitable for a proper thickener in grease formulation.
