Abstract |
Arsenic is present as inorganic and organic arsenic. The arsenic toxicity varies depending on the chemical form. Therefore, the quantitative and qualitative determination of the total arsenic as well as the arsenic species has been very important. Rice is a staple food in the world`s half population and is a major source of human arsenic intake. However, the extraction and determination of arsenic species in rice has been very difficult because of the severe matrix interference. In this study, the various analytical methods including the internal standard method and standard addition method have been investigated for the determination of arsenic species in rice. A new analytical method was developed for the determination of arsenic species in rice by inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) coupled with ion chromatography (IC). Rice certified reference material (NIST SRM 1568b rice flour) was used to evaluate its suitability for the analytical method. |
