Abstract Aluminum substituted lithium vanadium borate as a cathode material has been prepared by sol-gel route, and its electrochemical properties have been investigated. Commonly, aluminum ions provide a modification of the lithium insertion reaction consistent with increasing alkaline ionic disorder. These phenomena suggest that the substituted phases may offer some improvement their electrochemical properties, such as low polarization, high average potential, low irreversibility, and long cyclability. Galvano-static charge/discharge and cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements were also measured to study the reversibility of the lithium extraction/insertion processes. As shown in figure, 4% aluminum substituted lithium vanadium borate has better electrochemical performance in high C rates.
