Abstract |
Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry (FT-ICR MS) has emerged as a powerful tool for the analysis of extremely complex mixtures, such as crude oils, water and soil-derived organic substances, resulting in rapid and accurate interpretation of the elemental compositions of complicated samples. The unsurpassed resolving power (full width at half maximum, FWHM: >500,000) and mass accuracy (<0.5 ppm) of FT-ICR MS and the development of advanced data processing tools and graphical methods has made it possible to successfully identify the chemical compositions of extremely complicated samples. 15 Tesla FT-ICR MS is the mass spectrometer with the highest magnetic field in Korea that provides a world-class mass resolution and accuracy, and has been used in the fields of petroleomics, metabolomics, natural organic matter analysis and environmental analysis. In this talk, ultra-high resolution 15T FT-ICR MS that has recently been used to successfully identify the chemical compositions of extremely complicated samples (i.e. crude oils, soil and aerosol-derived organic substances) will be introduced. |
