Abstract Biologically active lipids serve as signaling molecules in human and animal diseases. In particular, sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is secreted in the blood for wound healing and is known to act as an immune cell and cancer cell differentiation, survival, and function regulator. Depending on the level of S1P in the blood, the potential for biomarkers to detect specific diseases or cancer cells is emerging. To make an antibody capable of detecting S1P, a derivative that binds S1P efficiently to the antigen-forming protein is required. Therefore, in this study, we report the efficient synthesis of S1P derivatives with terminal amino-oxy functional groups. The possibility of the terminal amino-oxy S1P derivative as an epitope was confirmed by a known ELISA method. The production of antibodies using these derivatives is currently being studied.
