Abstract |
Iron oxide nanoparticle cores - silica shell nanostructures with multi-functional properties are successfully fabricated in a facile and high-yielding manner. The sodium oleate-modified Fe3O4 nanoparticles (NPs) are effectively encapsulated within silica matrix through both Stöber and reverse-microemulsion (water-in-oil) methods. Both organic (fluorescein) and inorganic (Rubpy) dyes are incorporated through the sequential hydrolysis and condensation of tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) and 3-(aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) to form highly fluorescent, multiple Fe3O4 nanoparticle core–silica shell nanoparticles (FL multi-Fe3O4@SiO2 NPs). These approaches for multi-functional nanoparticles can be efficiently applied for the fabrication of interesting nanomaterials useful in a variety of areas. |
